Dear RRR Network Member,
| |
Changing Environments’, new challenges for the living country was the theme of the 2009 WA State NRM Conference held in Geraldton on October 27th - 30th. The event included seminars on climate change and social science, two workshops, a photographic exhibition illustrating images from the 2009 Northern Agricultural Catchments Council (NACC) photographic competition, and the 2009 Landcare Awards Dinner.
In addition, the program included a Discovery Day which featured tours throughout the region hosted by NACC staff and experts in the field. The conference program also picked up the “Changing Environments” theme and brought together a diverse range of presenters from all over Australia, including many from Western Australia.
Congratulations to NACC for the wonderful delivery of an interesting, thought provoking and well organised conference.

Small grants to schools in drought-affected areas The federal government last week announced funding of $17.4 million to help primary and secondary schools in the forty regions eligible for Exceptional Circumstances drought assistance. Schools may use the funding for items such as text books, uniforms, subject levies, excursions and school camps, or to provide other support which is directly related to schooling. The funding is flexible which means it can be used to subsidise activities for a whole class or school. Principals can also direct support to families most in need. Many schools in this region will receive up to $10,000.

Support for remote learners The national network of Rangeland Champions has the ability to provide 'out of hours' support for remote learners.
